ISLAMABAD, April 18, 2025 — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is set to embark on significant foreign visits to Kabul and Dhaka in the coming days, signaling a positive shift in Pakistan’s foreign relations. According to sources, Dar will visit Kabul on April 19, marking the first visit by a Pakistani foreign minister to Afghanistan in three years. This visit follows recent developments, including a successful Pakistani delegation trip to Kabul, which led to an agreement with the Afghan government on addressing security concerns, particularly regarding the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The breakthrough is expected to pave the way for stronger bilateral ties between the two countries.
Dar’s visit to Afghanistan comes after high-level meetings, including the first Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) meeting in 15 months. It reflects a thaw in relations that were previously strained due to Afghanistan’s reluctance to address Pakistan’s security issues. Ambassador Sadiq Khan’s recent visit to Kabul confirmed the resumption of high-level engagements, which are expected to activate multilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Afghanistan, alongside other regional partners.
On April 22, 2025, Dar will also travel to Dhaka, Bangladesh, marking the first visit by a Pakistani foreign minister to Bangladesh since 2012. The visit underscores the growing importance of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Pakistan and Bangladesh also resumed political consultations, which had been paused for 15 years. The 6th round of Foreign Secretary Level Consultations, held in Dhaka on Thursday, represents a significant step toward enhancing bilateral cooperation.
These diplomatic moves highlight Pakistan’s efforts to reinvigorate its foreign policy by strengthening ties with its neighboring countries.
