Canadian Mosque Imam Targeted in Violent Street Assault

Imam Assaulted Outside Canadian Mosque in Suspected Hate Attack

Imam Assaulted Outside Canadian Mosque in Suspected Islamophobic Attack

An imam in Victoria, Canada, was attacked outside a mosque in what a Muslim advocacy group has described as a disturbing Islamophobic incident, raising renewed concerns about rising hate-related violence in the country.

According to the National Council of Canadian Muslims, Sheikh Ebrahim, the imam of the BCMA Mosque, was sitting in his vehicle after leading evening prayers on Thursday when an individual approached, forcibly opened his car door, and assaulted him.

The attacker allegedly shouted Islamophobic insults during the incident, including telling the imam to “go back to your country,” before fleeing the scene. The organization said it has been in contact with authorities over the past 48 hours to ensure a thorough investigation and accountability.

The group strongly condemned the attack, calling it “unacceptable” and warning that it reflects a broader pattern of growing Islamophobia affecting Muslim communities across Canada.

Officials urged political leaders and public institutions to openly condemn such acts and take stronger action to prevent hate-motivated violence. They also called on law enforcement to investigate all aspects of the assault, including whether it was driven by religious or racial bias.

Authorities have not yet released additional details about the suspect or the imam’s medical condition. The investigation remains ongoing.
