Israeli Forces Conduct Raids in West Bank Towns
RAMALLAH / ISTANBUL — Israeli troops raided the Palestinian town of eastern Lubban south of Nablus on Tuesday, arresting several residents and causing property damage, local officials said.
Yaqub Oweis, head of the eastern Lubban local council, told Anadolu that soldiers entered the town around midnight, searched multiple homes, and damaged property inside some houses. Several young men were taken into custody, though their exact number was not disclosed.
The town, home to roughly 4,200 Palestinians, has faced repeated closures and tight restrictions by Israeli forces since the Gaza war began in October 2023. Oweis also said illegal Israeli settlers have carried out vandalism in the area. Eastern Lubban lies along the main road connecting Ramallah and Nablus, with several Israeli settlements and outposts established on its land.
Residents Describe Raids
Asma al-Aboushi, a local resident, recalled the soldiers entering her home. “They seated us, searched the house, and photographed us to check our identities. Two soldiers went to the kitchen while others laughed upstairs,” she said. She added that soldiers took the family’s pre-dawn suhoor meal and left the house in disarray.
Elsewhere, Israeli forces reportedly raided Silwad, east of Ramallah, deploying dozens of soldiers across its neighborhoods.
Arrests and Prison Figures
The Israeli military frequently conducts raids and searches in Palestinian towns across the occupied West Bank. Palestinians report that these arrest operations have intensified since the start of Ramadan last week.
The Palestinian Prisoner Society stated that Israeli forces have arrested over 100 Palestinians in the West Bank since Ramadan began. Currently, more than 9,300 Palestinians are held in Israeli prisons, including 66 women and 350 children.
Violence has surged in the West Bank since the Gaza war began in October 2023. Palestinian authorities report more than 1,116 killed, roughly 11,500 wounded, and approximately 22,000 arrested.
