Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Conducts Large-Scale Drill Amid Rising US Tensions
TEHRAN — Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) held a major drill along the southern coast on Tuesday, signaling heightened readiness amid escalating tensions with the United States.
The 1404 Combined Exercise involved multiple units of the IRGC Ground Force, according to the semi-official Fars News Agency. Officials said the drill aimed to strengthen combat readiness and demonstrate modern technologies and new tactics to counter potential threats.
This exercise follows last week’s large-scale IRGC Navy drill in the Strait of Hormuz, overseen by Maj. Gen. Mohammad Pakpour, the force’s top commander.
Tensions have surged as US aircraft carriers and bombers entered the Persian Gulf region. President Donald Trump has warned that failure in ongoing nuclear talks could prompt a military response. The third round of indirect nuclear negotiations, mediated by Oman, is set for Thursday in Geneva, where Iran plans to present a draft nuclear program proposal.
New Missile Systems and Advanced Technologies Tested
During the drill, the IRGC deployed micro-drones and loitering munitions. The Rezvan munitions identified targets and assigned them to Shahed 136 suicide drones, which struck pre-determined locations.
Special forces simulated operations to defend the shoreline, using artillery with proximity-fused shells, shore-to-sea strikes, and heavy firepower. Brig. Gen. Mohammad Karami, commander of the IRGC Ground Force, said all units—including missile, artillery, drone, special forces, armored, and mechanized units—completed planned operations across various sectors.
Additionally, the IRGC tested new missile systems with advanced navigation, pinpoint accuracy, and enhanced warheads capable of penetrating fortified positions. Brig. Gen. Mohammad Hadi Sefidchian noted that electronic warfare and passive defense measures were also implemented.
Despite ongoing nuclear negotiations, both Iran and the US remain fully prepared for potential military confrontation.
