Grammy-winning Chicago rapper Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks, has been charged in a federal grand jury indictment for allegedly plotting the murder of a rival rapper. The charges include conspiracy, use of interstate facilities for murder-for-hire resulting in death, firearms-related offenses, and possession of firearms in furtherance of a violent crime.
The indictment, returned on Thursday, adds Banks as the lead defendant in connection with the August 2022 killing of a relative of the rival rapper, T.B., near the Beverly Center shopping mall in Los Angeles. Other defendants in the case include Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston. All six defendants face multiple felony charges, but none have entered a plea yet.
The charges stem from an ongoing feud between Banks and T.B., which began after the 2020 murder of OTF rapper Dayvon “King Von” Bennett, a close friend of Banks. In retaliation, Banks allegedly placed a bounty on T.B.’s life. On August 19, 2022, members of Banks’ organization, Only the Family (OTF), tracked and attempted to kill T.B. in a coordinated attack, killing T.B.’s family member instead.
The indictment further claims that Banks orchestrated the murder, funding the operation and directing the hitmen. Travel and flight records show that OTF members were paid to travel from Chicago to California to carry out the attack, and Banks himself traveled to California at the same time.
All the defendants face life sentences if convicted. The investigation is being led by the FBI and Los Angeles Police Department.
Additionally, Lil Durk is also facing legal action related to the gang-related shooting death of rapper FBG Duck in Chicago.
