CHISINAU: Moldova’s Parliament has approved a new government led by Prime Minister-designate Vasile Tofan, granting his administration a vote of confidence after an extended parliamentary session.
The new Cabinet secured the backing of 53 lawmakers from the ruling Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS), providing the majority required under the country’s Constitution to form a government.
Presenting his administration’s policy agenda, Tofan outlined plans to accelerate economic growth, improve the efficiency of public institutions, and continue Moldova’s path toward closer integration with the European Union.
The confidence vote followed a marathon parliamentary session lasting more than nine hours. Tofan spent approximately one hour introducing his government’s program before answering lawmakers’ questions for more than five hours ahead of the final debate and vote.
Under Moldova’s constitutional framework, a newly formed government officially takes office after securing a parliamentary vote of confidence. The Cabinet will now await formal appointment by President Maia Sandu, with ministers expected to assume their duties after taking the oath of office before the president.
The approval marks the beginning of a new administration tasked with advancing economic reforms, strengthening governance, and pursuing Moldova’s long-term European integration objectives.
