Netanyahu and Blinken Unite on Iran Threat, Discuss Gaza and Lebanon Operations

On October 22, 2024, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a productive two-and-a-half-hour meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, focusing on critical security issues. The discussions, which included both private and expanded sessions with professional teams from both sides, centered on the ongoing threats posed by Iran and its proxies, as well as developments in Israel’s military operations in Gaza and Lebanon.

The Prime Minister emphasized the shared need for the U.S. and Israel to unite against the Iranian threat, thanking Blinken for the continued U.S. support in combating Iran’s “axis of evil” and terrorist activities. Netanyahu highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts between the two nations to address these growing regional challenges.

One of the major topics discussed was the Israeli Defense Forces’ (IDF) operations in Lebanon. Netanyahu updated Blinken on the progress of military actions aimed at neutralizing Hezbollah’s capabilities and stressed the need for both security and diplomatic efforts to ensure the safe return of northern Israeli residents to their homes. Blinken expressed the United States’ profound shock over the recent Iranian-backed Hezbollah attempt on Netanyahu’s life, recognizing the severity of this threat.

The ongoing conflict in Gaza also took center stage in the meeting. Netanyahu discussed Israel’s military campaign against Hamas and reiterated Israel’s commitment to securing the release of hostages held by the terrorist organization. He also mentioned the significance of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar’s elimination, noting that it could positively influence the return of hostages and aid in achieving the broader goals of the conflict.

The two leaders further delved into the future governance framework for Gaza once the war concludes, with Netanyahu underscoring that the removal of Hamas could lead to a more stable and secure region post-conflict. Both sides agreed that the coordination of military and diplomatic strategies is crucial in addressing the multifaceted threats posed by Iran, Hezbollah, and Hamas.–News Desk
