Pakistani fighter jets targeted and bombed four locations in Afghanistan’s eastern Paktika province on Tuesday, believed to be camps of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The airstrikes, which hit areas in Murgha and Laman of Bernal district, resulted in several suspected terrorists being killed or wounded. Among those targeted was a camp linked to notable TTP figures, including Sher Zaman (also known as Mukhlis Yar), Commander Abu Hamza, Commander Akhtar Muhammad, and Umar Media, the group’s media head.
The Afghan defense ministry confirmed the attacks, but claimed that civilians, including children, were among the casualties. Details of the operation remained scarce at the time of reporting.
The strikes occurred on the same day that a Pakistani delegation, led by Special Representative Ambassador Muhammad Sadiq, arrived in Kabul for talks with Afghan officials, including Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani and Foreign Minister Amir Muttaqi, signaling a resumption of diplomatic discussions after a year of stalled communication.
