Pakistan Requests Trump Extend Iran Deadline for Diplomacy

PM Sharif Appeals for Strait of Hormuz Reopening and Cease-Fire

Pakistan Urges Trump to Extend Iran Deadline by Two Weeks

PM Sharif calls for extended diplomacy

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged US President Donald Trump to extend the deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz by two weeks. He stressed that additional time would allow diplomatic efforts to proceed effectively and potentially achieve meaningful results.

Sharif highlighted that ongoing negotiations for a peaceful resolution in the Middle East are progressing steadily and could yield substantial outcomes in the near future.

Cease-fire appeal to all warring parties

In his statement on US social media platform X, Sharif requested Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz for a corresponding two-week period as a gesture of goodwill. He also called on all conflicting parties in the region to observe a cease-fire during this time, emphasizing that such measures could help diplomacy reach a conclusive resolution.

Timing coincides with Trump deadline

The appeal comes just hours before Trump’s declared deadline, which has raised global concern. Earlier, Trump warned that “a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again,” fueling tensions as the 8 p.m. Eastern Time (0000 GMT Wednesday) deadline approached.

Pakistan’s role in facilitating talks

Islamabad continues to play a key role in hosting and facilitating indirect negotiations between the US and Iran, aiming to end the ongoing Middle East conflict through diplomacy rather than military escalation.
