Russia, Africa to Establish Security Dialogue

Russia and African countries have agreed to establish a permanent dialogue mechanism to address various security issues, following a forum in Sochi on November 10. A joint statement confirmed their commitment to creating a top-level platform for cooperation, focusing on peace, stability, counterterrorism, environmental challenges, and food and information security.

The statement highlighted concerns over rising terrorist activity across Africa and stressed the importance of resolving conflicts through “African Solutions to African Problems.” It also called for a collective approach to enhance global peace and security, emphasizing the need to tackle the root causes of conflicts while upholding equal security principles. The parties reaffirmed their commitment to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and expressed concern over ongoing Middle East conflicts, particularly in Gaza and Lebanon, supporting Palestine’s UN membership.
