Russia suspends gas to Armenia for ten days

Armenia relies on Iran supply and reserves

Russia to Halt Gas Supplies to Armenia for Ten Days

Armenia to Cover Demand With Iran Imports and Gas Reserves

ISTANBUL – Russia will stop gas supplies to Armenia for ten days starting Tuesday, Gazprom Armenia announced on Monday. The cut is due to planned maintenance on the North Caucasus-Transcaucasia pipeline in Russia’s Stavropol region.

The suspension will run from September 16 to 26. During this period, gas will not flow from Russia into Armenia. Gazprom Armenia, a local operator fully owned by Russia’s state energy giant Gazprom, manages the domestic market.

Officials said the halt will not affect consumers. Armenia will use gas reserves and extra imports from Iran to keep supply stable. The country has an energy swap deal with Iran, trading electricity for natural gas.

Armenia depends heavily on Russian energy, but imports from Iran provide a backup. This arrangement ensures that homes and businesses will continue receiving gas without disruption during the maintenance.
