Kremlin Says Trump Did Not Request Ukraine Ceasefire in Call With Putin
MOSCOW:
Kremlin confirmed Tuesday that Donald Trump did not request a ceasefire in Ukraine during his recent phone call with Vladimir Putin. Officials also said the two leaders did not agree on a new date for trilateral talks involving Russia, Ukraine and the United States.
During a press briefing in Moscow, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov explained that Monday’s discussion did not include any formal proposal for a temporary halt to fighting.
Russia Welcomes US Mediation
Peskov said Moscow appreciates Washington’s role in mediation efforts aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
According to him, Putin values these diplomatic initiatives and supports continued dialogue.
“President Putin highly appreciates these mediation efforts. We are grateful and want this process to continue,” Peskov told reporters.
No Ceasefire Request Raised
However, the Kremlin spokesman clarified that Trump did not ask Russia to declare a ceasefire before reaching a broader settlement.
Some reports suggested that Ukraine might seek a pause in fighting to help Arab states counter drone attacks allegedly launched by Iran. Peskov rejected the idea that such conditions were discussed.
“Such conditions were not set,” he said. He added that the key terms related to a ceasefire are already known to all sides involved in the negotiations.
Sanctions Issue Briefly Mentioned
Peskov also addressed speculation about US sanctions on Russian oil exports. He said the leaders did not examine the issue in detail during the call.
Nevertheless, he noted that restrictions imposed by the United States aim to stabilize global energy markets. These measures come as tensions continue to rise in the Persian Gulf.
