Suspicious Device Prompts Street Closures Near Mayor Mamdani’s Residence

ISTANBUL

Police in New York City closed several streets and a nearby park Tuesday after officers discovered a suspicious device close to the official residence of Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

Streets and Park Temporarily Shut

According to the New York City Police Department, authorities shut down East End Avenue between East 85th and East 87th streets. In addition, officials blocked East 86th Street between York Avenue and East End Avenue. Officers also closed Carl Schurz Park as a safety precaution.

Police restricted access to both vehicles and pedestrians while officers examined the device. Authorities have not yet released further details about the object.

Security Concerns After Earlier Incident

The security alert comes only days after another incident outside Gracie Mansion, the mayor’s residence located along East End Avenue.

Investigators recently determined that a device thrown during a protest near the mansion was an improvised explosive capable of causing serious injury or death. Police arrested two men in connection with that case, and both suspects remain in custody.

Officials continue to investigate the latest discovery near the mayor’s residence.
