Trump Threatens Tariffs Over Greenland Takeover
WASHINGTON – On Friday, President Donald Trump warned he might impose tariffs on countries that do not support his plans to annex Greenland.
During a White House meeting, Trump said he “may put a tariff on countries if they don’t go along with Greenland.” Greenland is a self-governing territory under Denmark’s control. He did not specify which countries could face tariffs or the legal authority he would use to enforce them.
Many nations, including Denmark and Greenland, have opposed Trump’s proposal. In the United States, public and political opinion has also shown skepticism about acquiring the territory. Meanwhile, a bipartisan congressional delegation visited Greenland to show support for the island’s autonomy.
