Fidan Joins Turkic States Diplomatic Meeting

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is set to attend the Council of Foreign Ministers meeting of the Organization of Turkic States, which will take place on Friday in Turkistan, Kazakhstan.

Fidan will also accompany Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) informal summit in the same city, according to Turkish diplomatic sources.

The meeting follows decisions made at the 12th OTS Summit held in Gabala, Azerbaijan, in October 2025, where member states agreed to increase the frequency of foreign ministers’ meetings at Türkiye’s initiative. Since then, informal gatherings have already taken place in Istanbul and on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

The upcoming session will bring together foreign ministers from Türkiye, host nation Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, along with senior officials from the OTS Secretariat.

Discussions are expected to focus on strengthening cooperation within the organization as well as addressing regional and global issues, including developments in Iran and Gaza.

At the conclusion of the meeting, ministers are expected to sign an agreement aimed at enhancing the institutional and digital capacity of the OTS Secretariat.

Fidan is expected to highlight progress in cooperation among Turkic states across sectors such as political dialogue, trade, energy security, connectivity, education, culture and digital transformation.

He is also expected to emphasize Ankara’s position that the Turkish Cypriot community and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus should gain greater recognition in the international arena, reflecting broader cooperation among Turkic nations.

The Turkish foreign minister is additionally expected to draw attention to the global impact of tensions involving Iran, warning that disruptions in the region are affecting both security and economic stability.

He is likely to stress the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation in strategic waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz, and caution against its use for geopolitical leverage.

Fidan is also expected to underline the need for continued diplomatic efforts with regional partners, including Pakistan, to achieve a lasting resolution to the Iran conflict.

On Gaza, he is anticipated to reiterate Türkiye’s commitment to delivering humanitarian aid and supporting reconstruction efforts in coordination with the international community.

Alongside the summit, Fidan is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with several counterparts from member states to discuss regional cooperation and ongoing diplomatic initiatives.
