U.S. Deploys B-1 Bombers in Latest Operation as Iran Tensions Intensify
The United States has deployed B-1 Lancer long-range bombers in operations targeting positions associated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), according to a report citing U.S. officials. The mission marks the first operational use of the aircraft since hostilities between Washington and Tehran escalated nearly two weeks ago.
The B-1 Lancer, renowned for its supersonic speed, extended range, and ability to carry one of the largest conventional weapons payloads in the U.S. Air Force, represents a significant enhancement in America’s strike capabilities. Officials say the deployment reflects Washington’s continued efforts to strengthen its military presence in the region amid growing security concerns.
According to the report, the bomber departed from a U.S. military base in the United Kingdom before carrying out its mission. Flight-tracking data observed by aviation enthusiasts indicated the aircraft’s movement, although U.S. authorities have not disclosed the exact targets or assessed the effectiveness of the strikes.
The operation follows earlier military actions conducted under Operation Epic Fury, during which B-1 bombers reportedly targeted missile launch facilities, command-and-control centers, weapons storage sites, and air defense infrastructure.
Regional tensions have remained high following months of military exchanges involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Although Washington and Tehran signed a Pakistan-mediated memorandum aimed at reducing hostilities and pursuing a long-term peace framework, recent incidents surrounding the Strait of Hormuz have reignited confrontations, raising concerns over the potential for further escalation.
Reports also indicate that U.S. officials continue to assess additional military options as the security situation across the Middle East remains volatile.
