Israel to Suspend Licences of 37 Aid Groups in Gaza and West Bank

Middle East – Israel plans to revoke the licences of 37 international non-governmental organisations (INGOs) operating in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. Authorities said the organisations failed to meet new registration requirements, prompting the decision.

Aid Agencies Affected

The licence suspension will take effect on 1 January, giving the organisations 60 days to stop their operations. Key agencies affected include ActionAid, International Rescue Committee, Médecins Sans Frontières, and the Norwegian Refugee Council.

Israeli officials stated that the groups did not provide “complete” personal information of their staff. The INGOs warned that providing such details could put their employees at risk.

International Reaction

The decision has drawn strong criticism from 10 countries, including the UK and EU members, who warned that it could seriously limit access to vital services in Gaza.

Governments and aid organisations also cautioned that the suspension could worsen humanitarian conditions and hinder relief efforts in the region.
