Ukraine Reports Productive Peace Talks with US and European Partners
Talks Held in Florida
Ukraine has described recent meetings with the United States and European partners as productive, as diplomatic efforts continue to end the nearly four-year war with Russia. According to a joint statement released on Sunday, the talks took place over three days in Florida.
Focus of the Discussions
The statement, shared by US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff on social media platform X, said Ukrainian officials held a series of constructive discussions with Western partners. The talks focused on four key documents, including further development of a 20-point peace plan.
In addition, participants worked to align positions on security guarantees for Ukraine, both through multilateral frameworks and US-backed arrangements. They also advanced discussions on an economic recovery and prosperity plan for Ukraine.
Next Steps and Priorities
The statement noted that delegates paid close attention to timelines and the sequence of future steps. Ukraine reaffirmed its commitment to achieving a just and lasting peace, with priorities centered on stopping the fighting, ensuring security guarantees, and supporting long-term recovery and stability.
“Peace must go beyond a halt in fighting and provide a dignified foundation for a stable future,” the statement said.
Continued US Support
Ukraine expressed strong appreciation for US leadership and support, while also stressing the importance of continued coordination with European partners as talks move into the next phase.
Ongoing Diplomatic Efforts
These meetings form part of a broader peace initiative. Last weekend, US envoys held discussions with Ukrainian and European officials in Germany. Earlier, in November, delegations from the US and Ukraine met in Geneva, where they drafted a revised peace framework.
Following those talks, Witkoff and Jared Kushner, US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and informal adviser, met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Dec. 2 to discuss the proposal.
Parallel Russian Talks
Meanwhile, Russian Presidential Envoy Kirill Dmitriev traveled to Miami for talks with US officials. He later said discussions were moving forward in a “constructive” manner.
