UN Pledges Full Support for Venezuela Earthquake Relief

UN Mobilizes Emergency Aid After Deadly Venezuela Quakes

UNITED NATIONS: The United Nations has pledged its full support for Venezuela’s earthquake recovery efforts following two powerful earthquakes that struck the country earlier this week, leaving widespread destruction and mounting humanitarian needs.

UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said Secretary-General António Guterres spoke with Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodríguez on Thursday, expressing solidarity with the Venezuelan people and reaffirming the UN’s commitment to assisting the government’s relief operations.

According to Dujarric, the UN system is working closely with Venezuelan authorities to deliver urgent humanitarian assistance and coordinate international support as emergency response efforts intensify.

To address immediate needs, Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher has authorized $15 million from the UN’s Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF). The funding will help provide lifesaving assistance, including emergency healthcare, temporary shelter, food supplies, clean drinking water, and other essential services for affected communities.

The UN also announced that around 30 international search-and-rescue teams, consisting of more than 1,600 personnel and approximately 100 rescue dogs, are being deployed from multiple countries to assist ongoing operations.

Venezuelan authorities continue to lead rescue missions, medical assistance, and damage assessments while international humanitarian organizations expand their presence across the disaster-hit regions.

Dujarric said UN agencies and humanitarian partners remain fully mobilized and are working in close coordination with national officials to ensure aid reaches the hardest-hit communities as quickly and efficiently as possible.

The international response comes as rescue teams continue searching for survivors and assessing the full extent of the devastation caused by the twin earthquakes, which have triggered a major humanitarian emergency across parts of Venezuela.
