US President Warns Iran of Renewed Military Action

Iran War Tensions Rise as Trump Hints at Escalation

Trump Hints at Possible Further Military Action Against Iran

23 October 2026

WASHINGTON, DC — US President Donald Trump suggested on Thursday that Washington could launch additional military strikes against Iran, claiming that American forces had already inflicted significant damage.

Speaking to reporters at the White House before leaving for a campaign rally in Iowa, Trump said the military operation should have been undertaken by previous administrations and indicated that further action remained possible.

Asked about public opinion regarding the conflict, Trump said some Americans supported his decision, while others might oppose it. He acknowledged that the war carried consequences but insisted that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons remained a central objective.

On Wednesday, Trump stated that the United States was not negotiating with Iran and suggested that a decision or development concerning the conflict would come relatively soon.

The New York Times reported that American and Israeli military officials had prepared plans for potential renewed attacks on Iran following the US midterm elections. However, the report noted that it remained uncertain whether Trump would authorize the proposed operations.

The United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran on February 28, triggering retaliatory missile and drone attacks by Tehran across the region. The conflict also resulted in the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important passage for international energy shipments.

In June, the parties signed a memorandum of understanding intended to pave the way for a comprehensive peace agreement. However, the initiative subsequently collapsed because of unresolved disputes, including disagreements over maritime navigation through the strait.
