Western Europe Records Hottest June Ever Amid Extreme Heatwaves
PARIS, July 10:
Western Europe experienced its hottest June on record, the EU’s Copernicus Climate Change Service confirmed Wednesday. Intense back-to-back heatwaves pushed daily average temperatures to unprecedented levels, marking a severe start to the summer season.
According to Copernicus, June 2025 surpassed the previous hottest June in 2024, with 2023 ranking second. Globally, it was the third warmest June ever recorded, reflecting a persistent warming trend fueled by greenhouse gas emissions.
Europe continues to warm faster than the global average, and this year’s heat extremes left millions across the continent under high heat stress. Several regions recorded abnormal temperatures rarely experienced this early in the season.
Climate experts warn that the increasing frequency of such extreme weather events signals accelerating climate change. Officials urge immediate action to reduce emissions and improve heat preparedness to safeguard public health.
The new record adds to growing evidence of the climate crisis, with scientists emphasizing the urgent need for stronger global climate policies and regional adaptation strategies to confront the escalating threat of extreme heat.
