Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has declared that the coming months will be critical in determining the outcome of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. Speaking at an award ceremony in New York hosted by the American Academy of Achievement, where he received the prestigious Golden Plate Award, Zelenskyy underscored the urgency of Ukraine’s efforts in the face of Russia’s continued aggression.
“We don’t have much time. The next few months will be decisive,” Zelenskyy stated during his address. He emphasized that Russia’s war is not only against Ukraine but represents a broader battle against freedom itself, one that concerns the entire international community. “Ahead of us in this war – Russia’s war against Ukraine and all of you because this is Russia’s war against freedom itself – we are short of time to define what the outcome will be. And we must define it,” he added.
Zelenskyy expressed the need for urgency in Ukraine’s strategy, warning that any delays could have long-lasting effects. “We need to be faster. We need not to lose the next few months in war, so that we don’t lose the next decades,” he cautioned, signaling the high stakes for Ukraine and its allies.
The Ukrainian president also spoke of a “plan for victory,” which he intends to present to the current U.S. administration, including Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, along with Ukraine’s international allies. He emphasized that Ukraine’s victory would not come at the expense of freedom, and the global community must stand united in achieving this goal. “I believe this must be our shared achievement – victory for freedom, with no compromises at freedom’s expense. Right now, we all hold the power to shape the world our children and their children will live in,” he said.
Zelenskyy’s remarks come ahead of his participation in the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where global leaders will gather to discuss pressing international issues, including the war in Ukraine.
Earlier this month, Zelenskyy outlined Ukraine’s “victory plan” in an interview with CNN, which includes four fundamental components: security, Ukraine’s geopolitical position, strong military support, and economic backing. He also hinted at a fifth point that will be essential for the country’s post-war future, ensuring long-term security and prosperity for Ukraine.
As the war enters a decisive phase, Zelenskyy’s call for swift action and increased international support highlights the critical juncture at which Ukraine and its allies now stand. The next few months, as he indicated, could shape not only the future of Ukraine but also the global order for decades to come.–News Desk
