On Saturday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) revealed that military courts have handed down sentences to 25 civilians for their involvement in the violent May 9 riots, during which military sites were attacked. The sentences, ranging from two to 10 years, follow a thorough legal process, with 14 of the convicted receiving 10-year terms for their participation in the attacks on significant military installations such as Jinnah House, the General Headquarters (GHQ), and the Pakistan Air Force Base in Mianwali.
The ISPR condemned the riots as “political terrorism” aimed at imposing a twisted agenda through violence. It described May 9 as a “dark chapter” in Pakistan’s history, marked by politically motivated violence and the desecration of military monuments. The military emphasized that these acts of violence threatened national security and stability, and the sentences represented an important step in upholding justice.
The military also highlighted that extensive investigations, fueled by solid evidence, were conducted to hold the perpetrators accountable. The ISPR warned against the dangers of being misled by political propaganda and stressed the importance of respecting the law in the future.
