Pakistan has etched its name into history by clinching an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series against South Africa, securing its third-ever series win on South African soil. The team’s impressive performance has made them the first to win three ODI series in the country in the 21st century, having previously triumphed in 2013 and 2021. This milestone puts them alongside Australia, the only other team to achieve such success in South Africa.
Rizwan Credits Team Effort for Victory
After the comprehensive win in the second ODI, captain Mohammad Rizwan lauded his team’s collective effort. He credited the solid foundation laid by him and Babar Azam, as well as Kamran Ghulam’s explosive batting, which led to a total of 329 runs. “I trusted Kamran, but not to the extent of today’s performance,” Rizwan said with a smile. Kamran, named Player of the Match, was elated with his contribution, while Rizwan also praised the bowlers for keeping South Africa’s chase in check.
PCB Chairman Congratulates Team
Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed his pride in the team’s historic achievement. He congratulated the players for their outstanding teamwork, with notable performances from Rizwan, Babar, and Kamran. Naqvi also expressed hope for continued success, especially in upcoming challenges like the Champions Trophy.
Klaasen Fined for Code of Conduct Breach
Meanwhile, South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen faced a fine and a demerit point for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct after he kicked the stumps following his dismissal. Klaasen accepted the penalty, marking his first offence in two years.
With the series in the bag, Pakistan will aim for a clean sweep in the final ODI on December 22, while South Africa looks to salvage some pride.
