French Far-Right Leader Endorses Some US Critiques of Europe
Paris: Jordan Bardella, leader of France’s far-right National Rally (RN), said in a BBC interview that he agrees “for the most part” with the concerns about Europe raised in US President Donald Trump’s new National Security Strategy.
The White House released the strategy last week, outlining Trump’s global vision and a critical assessment of Europe. Bardella praised what he described as Trump’s “appeal to American pride,” but emphasized that he does not want Europe to be “subservient to any major power.”
He also highlighted a “wind of freedom and national pride” sweeping through Western democracies.
During the wide-ranging discussion with BBC’s Nick Robinson on the Political Thinking podcast, the 30-year-old RN leader, who is reportedly leading in opinion polls for the next French presidential race, addressed questions about his party’s political history and his views on immigration.
Bardella’s comments signal alignment with some US perspectives on European unity and sovereignty while asserting his commitment to French and European independence.
