Israel Drops Anti Hezbollah Leaflets Over Beirut
BEIRUT – Aircraft from Israel dropped propaganda leaflets across several neighborhoods of Beirut on Friday, urging the Lebanese group Hezbollah to surrender its weapons.
Leaflets Target Key Beirut Districts
Israeli aircraft scattered the leaflets over multiple districts, including Verdun, Hamra, and Ain el-Mreisseh.
The messages described Hezbollah as “Iran’s arm” and carried the slogan: “Lebanon is your decision, not someone else’s.”
Observers say the leaflet campaign aims to influence public opinion and increase pressure on Hezbollah during the ongoing conflict.
Fighting Intensifies Between Israel and Hezbollah
Meanwhile, tensions between Israel and Hezbollah continue to rise. On March 2, Hezbollah launched attacks on Israeli military sites. The group said the strikes were a response to Israeli operations in Lebanon that have continued since November 2024.
Those earlier Israeli attacks included the killing of Iran’s then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in Tehran, which sharply increased tensions across the region.
Israel Expands Military Operations
Later the same day, Israeli forces widened their campaign in Lebanon by launching airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs and several locations in the south and east of the country.
The following day, Israel carried out a limited ground operation in southern Lebanon. This move came shortly after Israel and the United States began a joint military campaign against Iran on Feb. 28.
Rising Casualties and Displacement
Lebanese authorities reported heavy human losses from the expanding offensive. According to official figures released on Thursday, Israeli attacks have killed 687 people, injured 1,774, and forced about 822,000 residents to leave their homes across the country.
As a result, the humanitarian situation continues to worsen while fears of wider regional escalation grow.
