Young Girl Dies After Drowning in Calgary Pond
CALGARY: A young girl has died after drowning in a pond in Calgary’s southeast Legacy neighbourhood, despite rescue efforts by family members and emergency responders.
Emergency Health Services (EHS) and the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) said crews responded shortly after 1 p.m. on Sunday to reports of a person submerged in a pond near Legacy Main Street S.E.
According to Battalion Chief Bruce Barrs, the child had already been pulled from the water by a family member before emergency personnel arrived. Firefighters immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) while waiting for paramedics to reach the scene.
Once Emergency Medical Services arrived, firefighters transferred the girl’s care to paramedics and continued assisting with advanced resuscitation efforts.
Despite the coordinated response, the child could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not released the victim’s identity or age, and no additional details about the circumstances surrounding the incident have been made public.
The tragic drowning serves as a reminder of the importance of water safety, particularly around ponds and other open bodies of water during the summer months. Officials have not indicated whether further investigations into the incident are underway.
