At least 40 schools in New Delhi received bomb threats via email on Monday, demanding a $30,000 ransom, according to reports.
Authorities promptly launched searches at the targeted schools, but no explosives have been discovered so far. The threatening emails warned of bomb detonations if the ransom wasn’t paid. Officials have not confirmed whether these are genuine threats or elaborate hoaxes.
The incident is part of a rising wave of bomb scares across India, which have recently targeted schools, airports, and railway stations.
Parents rushed to collect their children from schools as a precautionary measure, creating scenes of concern and urgency. Meanwhile, the Delhi Police are working to trace the source of the emails and identify those responsible.
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has criticized the central government for failing to address ongoing security issues in the capital, emphasizing the need for better safety measures. However, the federally appointed Lieutenant Governor has yet to respond to the situation publicly.
The police continue to investigate, assuring the public that robust measures are being taken to safeguard students, staff, and school premises.
