The Edmonton Oilers delivered a crucial performance on home ice, defeating the Anaheim Ducks 4-1 to extend their playoff series and force a sixth game.
Leon Draisaitl scored twice, while Evan Bouchard provided three assists in a dominant display. Goals from Vasily Podkolzin and Zach Hyman further strengthened Edmonton’s effort, helping the team avoid elimination after a difficult start to the series.
Playmakers Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins each contributed two assists. The Oilers continued their strong record when scoring first in elimination scenarios, improving an already impressive statistic.
Anaheim, who still lead the best-of-seven series 3-2, managed their only goal through Alex Killorn, who capitalised on a power play opportunity during the second period.
Edmonton set the tone early, opening the scoring just over two minutes into the game as Podkolzin found the net. Hyman doubled the lead midway through the first period, followed shortly by Draisaitl’s deflected effort, prompting Anaheim to replace starting goaltender Lukas Dostal after conceding three quick goals.
The Ducks responded in the second period, but Draisaitl struck again on the power play, securing his second goal of the night and matching Wayne Gretzky’s franchise record for post-season power-play goals.
Goaltender Connor Ingram delivered a strong performance for Edmonton, making 29 saves to secure the victory. Anaheim’s Ville Husso stepped in as relief but could not halt the Oilers’ momentum.
Despite being outshot heavily over the final two periods, Edmonton maintained control and closed out the game without conceding further goals.
The series now shifts to California for Game 6, where Anaheim will look to secure progression, while Edmonton aims to complete a comeback and push the contest to a decisive final game.
