EU Recalls Ambassador from Niger Amid Tensions Over Aid

The European Union (EU) has recalled its ambassador from Niger after tensions arose over the EU’s humanitarian aid to flood victims in the country. Niger’s transitional government criticized the EU for allocating €1.3 million in aid without prior consultation, accusing the EU ambassador of unilaterally redistributing the funds to NGOs. The EU rejected these claims, asserting that the aid was provided neutrally and through international organizations, and has recalled its ambassador for consultations. This marks another deterioration in relations between the EU and Sahelian military governments.
