UN Reports 1080 Palestinian Deaths in West Bank

1. UN Commission Calls for Stronger International Action

UN Commission Reports Over 1000 Palestinian Deaths in the West Bank

WASHINGTON, October 27, 2026: The UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel reported that Israeli forces had killed 1,080 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, between October 7, 2023, and September 30, 2026.

During a hybrid briefing on Tuesday, Indian commission member Srinivasan Muralidhar presented the findings, highlighting the deaths and thousands of injuries recorded during the period. The fatalities included at least 784 men, 237 boys, 22 women and seven girls. According to the commission, Israeli forces also injured 10,009 Palestinians across the occupied territory.

The commission called on the international community to take stronger action against Israel’s occupation and settlement activities. It urged countries not to recognize the occupation or settlements as lawful and to avoid providing political, military or economic assistance that could help sustain them.

Muralidhar emphasized that greater international pressure, particularly from the UN Security Council, was essential to ensure Israel’s compliance with international law and address the serious crisis affecting Gaza and the West Bank. He also urged international partners, especially the United States, to reconsider their support for Israel, arguing that stronger measures were needed to address alleged genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Australian commission member Chris Sidoti said the commission’s legal assessment had concluded that Israeli political and military authorities were responsible for crimes against humanity in the West Bank. The alleged crimes included extermination, persecution, torture, rape and other sexual violence, as well as the deliberate targeting of Palestinian civilians.

Florence Mumba, a commission member from Zambia, said Israeli authorities and settlers were seeking to expand their control over Palestinian land and force residents from their homes through violence and mistreatment. She cited killings, sexual violence and attacks affecting children as examples of the worsening situation.

The occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, has experienced increasing Israeli military operations and settler violence since the outbreak of the war in Gaza in October 2023. The commission’s findings underscore growing international concerns about the humanitarian and human rights situation in the territory.
