Putin Invites Zelenskyy to Moscow for Direct Peace Talks

Russian President Vladimir Putin has invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Moscow for direct negotiations, with assurances that appropriate security arrangements would be made for his visit, according to Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov.

Ushakov said Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store and Finnish President Alexander Stubb informed Putin during a recent telephone conversation that Zelenskyy was interested in meeting directly with the Russian leader.

According to Ushakov, Putin reiterated that Moscow was prepared to host negotiations if the Ukrainian president genuinely wished to engage in direct discussions. He added that all necessary arrangements, including measures to ensure Zelenskyy’s safety, would be provided.

Ushakov said the 90-minute telephone conversation also focused on a proposal to restart trilateral negotiations involving Russian, Ukrainian and US representatives in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. He noted that the participants discussed several questions concerning the proposed talks and sought further clarification.

Regarding the possible involvement of European representatives in negotiations on Ukraine, Ushakov said the issue was not currently being considered and would be addressed at a later stage.

He described the conversation as detailed and substantive, adding that the participants had agreed to communicate again if necessary.
