Georgia launches legal case against BBC

BBC report on chemical agents disputed

Georgia to Sue BBC Over Claims of Chemical Agent Use During Protests

Georgia’s ruling party announced that it plans to take legal action against the BBC after the broadcaster reported that authorities used a chemical agent to disperse protesters last year.

In a statement, the party accused the BBC of spreading false information. “We have decided to initiate legal proceedings against the BBC, a fake media outlet, in international courts,” the statement said. Party officials argued that the report damaged Georgia’s reputation and misled the public.

The controversy centers on BBC allegations that security forces deployed a chemical substance during demonstrations in Tbilisi. However, Georgian officials deny the claim and insist that police followed lawful procedures while managing the protests.

Government representatives added that the legal process aims to defend the country’s image and challenge what they describe as inaccurate reporting. They emphasized that the case will move forward in international courts to ensure transparency and accountability.
