While global attention has focused on Washington, Germany is facing a quiet political crisis.
The turmoil, driven by coalition infighting and complex constitutional issues, has left Europe’s leading economy in an uncertain position amid stalled growth and concerns over a possible Trump presidency.
On Wednesday night, Chancellor Olaf Scholz dismissed Finance Minister Christian Lindner, head of one of the three coalition parties. In response, two of Lindner’s cabinet colleagues resigned, effectively collapsing the coalition government.
