Herzog Condemns Paris Attacks on Jewish Institutions, Urges Swift Justice
June 1, 2025 – Jerusalem — Israeli President Isaac Herzog strongly condemned the recent attacks on Jewish community buildings in Paris, including a historic synagogue tied to his family heritage, calling for immediate action by French authorities to safeguard the Jewish population.
The attacks occurred over Shabbat and targeted several institutions, including the synagogue in the Marais district — a landmark built by Herzog’s great-grandfather, Rabbi Joel Herzog.
“I am appalled by the attack on Jewish institutions in Paris — including the synagogue in the Marais neighborhood,” President Herzog stated. “This is not only a vile act of antisemitism, but a personal affront to the legacy of my family and the values we stand for.”
In a show of solidarity, Herzog held a call with leaders of the French Jewish community and CRIF (Conseil Représentatif des Institutions Juives de France) to offer unwavering support and unity during this troubling time.
“I expressed my solidarity and full support for the community,” Herzog said, emphasizing the urgent need for protection and justice. “I call on French authorities to act swiftly and firmly to bring the perpetrators to justice, and to defend the Jewish community from hatred and attacks of any kind.”
The incident has reignited concerns over rising antisemitism in Europe and the safety of Jewish communities across France, home to the largest Jewish population in Europe. Herzog’s appeal underscores the deepening ties between Israel and diaspora communities, and the shared responsibility to combat intolerance in all its forms.
