Board of Peace to Pledge Over $5 Billion for Gaza Reconstruction
Trump Announces Funding and International Force
US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that member states of the newly formed Board of Peace will pledge more than $5 billion for humanitarian aid and reconstruction in Gaza. The announcement will take place during a Thursday gathering at the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace in Washington, D.C.
In addition to funding, Trump said that member states have committed thousands of personnel to the planned International Stabilization Force and local police to maintain security for residents of Gaza.
Board of Peace: A Vision for Global Peace
Trump emphasized the Board of Peace’s potential, recalling that last month, “two dozen distinguished founding members” joined him in Davos, Switzerland, to mark its formation and present a plan for supporting civilians in Gaza and advancing broader global peace initiatives.
He described the Board as “the most consequential international body in history” and said he is honored to serve as its chairman.
Troop Contributions and Administrative Oversight
Reports indicate that Indonesia may deploy up to 8,000 troops to Gaza as part of the stabilization effort. The White House previously announced the creation of a technocratic National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, which will oversee the transition of power and manage reconstruction under Trump’s 20-point plan.
The ceasefire agreement that ended Israel’s two-year war in Gaza resulted in over 72,000 Palestinian deaths and the destruction of 90% of civilian infrastructure. The United Nations estimates reconstruction costs at approximately $70 billion.
Since the truce, Gaza’s Health Ministry reports at least 601 Palestinians killed and more than 1,600 injured in subsequent Israeli attacks.
