Maduro Brought to United States to Face Federal Charges
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has been transferred to the United States following a large-scale U.S. military operation in Venezuela, according to official statements. Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, are now in New York City.
Authorities are holding Maduro at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. He is expected to appear in a federal court in Manhattan, where prosecutors will present charges related to drug trafficking and weapons offenses.
Trump Says U.S. Will Temporarily Govern Venezuela
President Donald Trump said the United States will temporarily “run” Venezuela until what he described as a “judicious transition” takes place. He stated that Washington aims to stabilize the country during this interim period.
In addition, Trump said the U.S. will take control of Venezuela’s vast oil reserves. He argued that managing these resources is necessary to restore economic order and protect regional interests.
Power Struggle Deepens Inside Venezuela
Meanwhile, Venezuela’s Supreme Court has ordered Vice President Delcy Rodríguez to assume the powers and duties of acting president. The decision has added to political uncertainty in the country.
At the same time, opposition leader María Corina Machado has urged that an opposition-backed candidate take over leadership, calling the moment a turning point for Venezuela’s future.
