Activists Disrupt German Military Events Over Israel Arms Sales

Protests Target Bundeswehr Day Displays in Munich Unna

Pro-Palestinian Demonstrations Disrupt German Armed Forces Day Events in Munich and Unna

Pro-Palestinian activists disrupted German Armed Forces Day celebrations in Munich and Unna on Saturday, staging protests against Germany’s military cooperation with Israel and its ongoing arms exports.

The demonstrations, organized under the banner “Peacefully against Genocide,” targeted public Bundeswehr events where military equipment was being displayed. Activists expressed opposition to what they describe as Germany’s role in supplying weapons used in overseas conflicts.

According to organizers, much of the equipment showcased at the events was produced by German defense company Rheinmetall, which supplies arms and ammunition internationally, including to Israel. They also criticized plans for new industrial facilities linked to the company.

During the protests, some participants climbed onto military vehicles on display and unfurled banners carrying messages condemning the use of German-made weapons in warfare. Videos shared on social media showed activists occupying a tank while chanting slogans against military exports.

One protester, identified as Hannes, said the action aimed to highlight the connection between public military exhibitions and the real-world use of exported weapons in conflict zones. He argued that showcasing military hardware normalizes warfare and obscures its human consequences.

Activists further accused the German government and defense industry of being complicit in international conflicts through arms sales, particularly in relation to Israel. They argued that such exports contribute to civilian harm and escalate ongoing violence in conflict regions.

The demonstrations briefly interrupted Armed Forces Day activities, drawing attention from attendees and authorities before the events resumed.

The protests reflect growing public debate in Germany over arms exports, military transparency and the country’s role in international conflicts, particularly amid heightened tensions in the Middle East.
