Saudi Arabia is grappling with severe rainstorms and flash floods that have wreaked havoc in Madinah, turning streets into torrents and disrupting daily life. The storms, which erupted on Monday, are expected to persist until Wednesday, January 8, with hail, strong winds, and dust storms compounding the chaos.
Videos circulating online reveal the storm’s fury, showing heavy downpours, gusty winds, and near-zero visibility across affected regions. The National Meteorological Center (NMC) has issued a red alert for areas including Jeddah, where torrential rains and flash floods have paralyzed movement and endangered residents.
The deluge, accompanied by high waves and fierce winds, has prompted authorities to urge caution. Motorists and residents have been advised to steer clear of flood-prone zones, while beachgoers are warned of rough seas. The Crisis and Disaster Management Center in Makkah emphasized the potential for further disruption, including traffic delays and submerged streets.
The storm system has cast a wide net, impacting Riyadh, Makkah, Al-Baha, and Tabuk, along with regions such as Northern Borders, Al-Jouf, Hail, Qassim, and the Eastern Province. Heavy rain and hail continue to batter Makkah City, Jeddah, and Bahra, while moderate rainfall blankets Taif and Al-Qunfudah.
As the storm rages on, authorities remain vigilant, providing updates and urging the public to prioritize safety. With nature’s wrath showing no signs of abating, Saudi Arabia braces for a challenging few days ahead.
