Trump Orders Blockade of Sanctioned Oil Tankers Linked to Venezuela
Washington — US President Donald Trump on Tuesday ordered a blockade on all sanctioned oil tankers entering or leaving Venezuela, escalating pressure on the government of President Nicolás Maduro.
The move targets Venezuela’s oil sector, which remains the country’s main source of revenue. According to US officials, the decision aims to tighten enforcement of existing sanctions and limit the Maduro government’s access to international oil markets.
Increased Pressure on Caracas
The order marks Washington’s latest step to strengthen economic restrictions on Venezuela. US authorities say the measure focuses specifically on tankers already under sanctions, rather than imposing a full maritime embargo.
By restricting tanker movement, the administration seeks to further isolate Caracas and reduce income generated from oil exports, which fund state operations.
