Temporary Halt Requested Over Extreme Cold
US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to suspend attacks on Ukraine for one week after Trump raised concerns about the extreme cold affecting the country.
Speaking at the White House, Trump said he directly contacted Putin to request a temporary pause in missile strikes, particularly targeting major Ukrainian cities.
Details of the Request
Trump explained that Russia is experiencing a cold wave similar to that in the US, but stressed that Ukraine is significantly colder. He said he asked Putin: “if you wouldn’t shoot for a period of one week, no missiles going into Kyiv or any other towns.” According to Trump, Putin agreed to the temporary halt.
“It’s something,” Trump added, highlighting the humanitarian concern behind the request.
Kremlin Response
Following Trump’s comments, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the US president had asked Putin to halt strikes in Ukraine until Feb. 1 but did not confirm whether the Russian leader formally agreed to the request.
