Warsaw Mayor RafaĆ Trzaskowski has been selected by Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s centrist Civic Coalition party as its presidential candidate for the 2025 election. Trzaskowski won a party primary with nearly 75% of the vote, defeating Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski, who secured just over 25%. Tusk praised the democratic selection process, contrasting it with the top-down approach of their rivals in the ruling Law and Justice party. Trzaskowski, who narrowly lost the 2020 presidential race to incumbent Andrzej Duda, expressed confidence in defeating the PiS and emphasized his mandate and determination to win. The first round of the election is scheduled for May 2025.
