WASHINGTON: US Vice President JD Vance warned that the United States would respond with military force if Iran resumes attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that freedom of navigation remains a top priority.
Vance said Washington had agreed to ease its naval blockade after Tehran pledged to stop targeting ships, but claimed Iran later violated that understanding. He emphasized that any renewed attacks on maritime traffic would trigger a stronger US military response.
His remarks followed President Donald Trump’s statement that the previous memorandum of understanding with Iran had effectively ended and that further military action remained possible. Meanwhile, Iran accused the US of breaching the agreement, arguing that Washington’s recent strikes and unilateral actions violated the framework governing security in the Strait of Hormuz.
