13th Maghreb Sumud Flotilla Ship Sails from Tunisia to Gaza
TUNIS, Tunisia / ISTANBUL – The Maghreb Sumud Flotilla said on Wednesday that its 13th ship has left Tunisia for Gaza. The trip is part of the Global Sumud Flotilla, which works to end Israel’s blockade on the enclave.
Ship Leaves Gammarth Port
In a video posted on Facebook, organizers confirmed the ship departed from Gammarth port, north of Tunis. Earlier in the day, flotilla member Jawaher Shanna told Anadolu that 12 ships had already set sail. Another was preparing to leave later that evening.
Support from Tunisians
Dozens of Tunisians gathered at the port to support the departure. They chanted slogans such as “Gaza, symbol of dignity” and “Free Palestine, Zionists out.”
International Fleet Expands
The Global Sumud Flotilla said on X that six more boats had sailed from the Greek island of Syros. These boats carried 26 Greeks and 20 other activists. They are expected to join the fleet on its way to Gaza.
On Tuesday, the International Committee to Break the Israeli Siege of Gaza said all ships will gather near Malta. From there, they will sail together toward the Palestinian coast.
Largest Mission So Far
Organizers said this is the flotilla’s biggest convoy yet. Its aim is to send aid and draw attention to Gaza’s crisis. Famine and disease continue to spread under the ongoing blockade.
Crisis in Gaza
Since October 2023, Israeli attacks have killed more than 65,000 Palestinians. Most of the victims are women and children. Continuous strikes and the closure of crossings have left Gaza in ruins and pushed many into starvation.
