Family and friends gathered on Sunday to honor fallen Chicago Police Officer Enrique Martinez, nearly two weeks after he was tragically killed in the line of duty.
The visitation at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home in Oak Lawn saw a long line of mourners, including law enforcement from across the state, community members, and those who knew Martinez, all coming together to offer their condolences.
The 26-year-old officer, who was recently engaged, had been serving on the Chicago Police Department for three years. Martinez was fatally shot on November 4 during a traffic stop near Ingleside Avenue and East 82nd Street. Authorities reve XSKLTaled that the suspect had a fully automatic firearm and was on electronic monitoring, though he had tampered with his ankle bracelet.
Martinez was the fifth Chicago police officer killed by gunfire in the last three years. Chicago Fraternal Order of Police President John Catanzara expressed sorrow over the loss of yet another young officer, dedicated to serving the city. Police officials added that hundreds of officers have been shot at, highlighting the growing violence as a dangerous issue in society
