EU condemns Israeli attack in Gaza

ISTANBUL

The EU’s foreign policy chief condemned the killing of Palestinian civilians in northern Gaza on Wednesday, following an Israeli army attack that reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least 100 Palestinians in the Beit Lahia area.

Josep Borrell expressed his outrage on X, stating, “The images from Beit Lahia in #Gaza are horrifying. At least 100 people have been killed in another IDF (Israeli military) attack. We will not stop condemning this and calling for accountability.” He emphasized that the principles of proportionality and civilian protection are being “brutally disregarded.”

These comments followed reports from the Gaza Health Ministry that indicated at least 93 Palestinians were killed and dozens more injured in an Israeli strike on a residential building in Beit Lahia on Tuesday.

Since the onset of Israel’s war against Gaza on October 7, 2023, more than 43,000 Palestinians have died, with a significant number being women and children, and over 101,000 injured, according to local health authorities.

The prolonged Israeli offensive has left large areas of Gaza in ruins, compounded by a severe blockade restricting food, clean water, and medical supplies. Israel faces accusations of genocide against Palestinians at the International Court of Justice.
