TEHRAN, July 8, 2025:
Iran has strongly denied claims by former US President Donald Trump that Tehran is seeking direct talks with Washington, calling the remarks baseless and politically motivated.
The denial comes amid escalating regional tensions following deadly Israeli airstrikes. According to Iranian officials, 1,060 people have been killed in recent Israeli attacks, while Israel reports 28 deaths from retaliatory Iranian drone strikes.
In a televised speech, Iran’s Foreign Ministry dismissed Trump’s statement, saying, “There are no negotiations planned or requested. The Islamic Republic will not engage under pressure or threats.”
Trump had earlier claimed Iran was quietly reaching out to the US for backchannel talks, hinting at possible diplomatic breakthroughs. Tehran’s firm rejection, however, signals a deepening rift and continued hostilities in the region.
Meanwhile, Israeli defense sources confirmed their forces were bracing for further drone threats, raising fears of prolonged conflict. Human rights groups have raised alarms over civilian casualties in both nations, urging international mediation to prevent further escalation.
This latest exchange underscores the fragile Middle East situation, with diplomacy appearing increasingly out of reach.
