DefenseTech Summit underscores Israel rise as a defense tech nation

Israel launches DefenseTech Summit to advance future security technologies

Israel MOD and TAU Launch International DefenseTech Summit Highlighting Next-Generation Technologies

Israel’s Ministry of Defense (MOD) and Tel Aviv University (TAU) opened the second International DefenseTech Summit on Monday, focusing on cutting-edge military technologies and lessons learned from recent conflicts. The event is led by the MOD’s Directorate of Defense Research & Development (DDR&D) in collaboration with the Blavatnik Cyber Research Center at TAU.

Maj. Gen. (Res.) Amir Baram, Director General of the MOD, emphasized Israel’s evolution from a “Cyber Nation” into a full-fledged Defense-Tech Nation, underlining the country’s innovation in advanced military technologies.

Israel Emerges as a Defense-Tech Power

Baram highlighted Israel’s diverse defense technology portfolio, which now covers:

  • Aerial Defense Systems

  • Unmanned Vehicles

  • Electronic Warfare

  • Quantum-Resistant Communications

  • Intelligence and Surveillance Systems

  • Cyber Defense

  • Space Technologies

He noted that in 2024, Israel signed 21 government-to-government agreements worth billions and invested 1.2 billion shekels in startups. Of the more than 300 startups working with DDR&D, over 130 participated in active operations during the war, demonstrating the rapid integration of innovative solutions into defense operations. Tel Aviv has now become the world’s third-leading Defense-Tech hub.

Strategic Opportunities and Next-Generation Technologies

Baram addressed Israel’s security challenges, stating that “all fronts remain open, and adversaries are adapting.” He explained that Israel is developing next-generation technologies for potential confrontations with Iran, combining defensive and offensive capabilities with additional operational enhancements.

He emphasized that Israel’s Defense-Tech ecosystem connects frontline feedback directly to engineers and industry partners, ensuring combat-proven solutions. “Necessity has created a unique innovation ecosystem shaped by decades of operational experience,” Baram said. “These systems are not theoretical—they are actively protecting lives worldwide.”
